Compare and contrast Ralph and Simon. Both seem to be " good” character types. Is there a difference in their goodness?
Both equally Ralph and Simon are motivated toward goodness through the novel. Equally boys job to establish and maintain order and harmony together with the rest of the group and are kind and protecting in their relationships with the littluns. However , because the novel progresses, we have the impression that Ralph's and Simon's motivations pertaining to doing good originate from diverse sources. Rob behaves and acts relating to meaning guidelines, nevertheless this patterns and these types of guidelines seem learned rather than innate. Ralph seems to have more dark instinctual desires beneath: such as the other boys, he gets embroiled by bloodlust during the quest and the move afterward. Bob, on the other hand, shows a benefits and closeness that do certainly not seem to have already been forced or perhaps imposed upon him by simply civilization. Rather, Simon's many advantages seems to be natural or to stream from his connection to character. He hails from accordance together with the moral restrictions of civilization simply because he could be temperamentally suitable for them: he is kind, innovative, and useful by nature. In the end, though Rob is capable of leadership, we come across that this individual shares the hidden instinct toward savagery and physical violence that Jack and his group embrace. Though Ralph truly does prove an effective leader, it can be Simon who recognizes the truth that stands at the core of the novel—that the beast does not can be found in touchable form on the island but rather is out there as an impulse toward evil within just each individual.
