When a person offers enough electricity in a contemporary society, it gives these people a lot of control over specific things. When they have this control, they can include ownership more than a person or a thing. By naming someone, or a thing, a person gains an unspoken title over him / her, they are now in control of him or her and it has a new new identification for them and erased all their old identification. Power, identifying and un-naming, control and ownership and identity are extremely important factors in " Mary” and " Zero Name Woman”. Both essays deal with electric power, identity, control and control, while " Mary” concentrates more in naming and " No Name Woman” focuses on un-naming. One's electrical power and placement in a culture can give these people the " right” or ability to term or un-name a person. Someone may gain this kind of right by his or her position socially, monetarily, and even racially. If it's their particular child, naturally , they have just about every right in the world to name him or her. But in a few cultures, ones own evident in " Simply no Name Woman”, they have the justification to take away a person's name in the event they have disgraced their family members and/or community. A name is very significant because it offers a person a feeling of who they are, an identity. In " No Name Woman”, Kingston's great aunt had not any identity apart from the story her mother told her and in " Mary” Marguerite's new employer, Mrs. Cullinan changed her name to Mary which in turn, in a way, eliminated Marguerite's initial identity and gave her a new one, a single she didn't want. By simply changing Marguerite's name, Mrs. Cullinan proves how much power she has more than a little dark servant just like Marguerite. A rich white-colored member of the society, by which Marguerite were raised, has more power and control of things than someone of the poor background or a dark background.
